Alcea rosea

A delightful mix of single and double hollyhocks!  A cottage garden favorite, these give a lovely, old-fashioned feel to any garden and the single blooms are very attractive to pollinators.  Double blooms look like double roses and are simply stunning!  Plants reach 3-4' in heights and are short-live perennials, so you'll have them around for a few years to enjoy.  Somewhat drought tolerant once their established, you won't have to water them much.

Direct sow around the last frost date.  Alternatively, start them indoors in a well-lit location as early as 8 weeks prior to last frost date.  Transplants can handle a light frost and will transplant better with lots of spring rain, so we get these started indoors early!  Water well the first spring, but you can lighten up as the season goes on.  Will self sow modestly.
