Leaves have some blistering and appear ruffled. They are dark purple on the edges, with pinkish midribs. They are not very uniform, with differences in heading, leaf angle, and pigmentation.  Because of this, Red Leprechaun could be the beginning of a simple selection breeding project wherein you select those which have the desired shape, flavor, etc. and save seed from those.  Height is 10-12\" and diameter of the heads is 16-19\". The midrib is very crisp with tender leaves.
