Quick facts
- Nature's most effective sedative
Valerian is an awesome calmative. The flowers and roots are used in teas and tinctures for insomnia, anxiety, and general relaxation. Flowers are very attractive to a wide variety of pollinators as they are shallow and nectar is easy to access. This is a clumping perennial, but it doesn't spread aggressively. May reseed a little, so plant them in garden corner. Grows 6+ feet when flowering. |

We recommend starting valerian seeds indoors about 6 weeks prior to transplant. During germination, keep the temperature 65-68 F. After germination, plants can be kept at normal greenhouse temperatures. Plants are clumping perennials that can get 6 ft. tall when flowering, so we recommend transplanting to an out of the way place where they can be free to do their thing for a few years.
