Eruca vesicaria ssp. sativa

25-40 days. 'Enrico Rao' is a rare and unique variety of arugula that we just love!  An heirloom arugula from southern Italy, brought to New York by Enrico Rao after he visited Sicily during WWI.  Leaves are tasty and succulent and are not deeply lobed like other arugulas, but rather form a broad strap-like shape. Lots of surface area! Peppery green popular with chefs, it is easy to grow and a great way to satisfy your craving for greens in early spring. This is a standard salad arugula which also makes excellent wilted greens and stir fry.

Direct sow up to 4 weeks before the average last frost. Do not transplant. Quite cold tolerant and more mild tasting in cooler weather, get this one started early to beat the heat as well as the pests. Harvest leaves young by cutting the whole plant. Plant successively every two weeks to keep you in young greens.
