Daucus carota subsp. sativus

A popular bright orange heirloom variety with mildly sweet flavor. Great raw, cooked, or juiced. Use as a baby carrot or allow it to grow to full size and see how large this variety gets without becoming woody! A choice for low-input systems, quite adaptable to varying levels of irrigation and soil fertility.

This variety stores super well when stored fresh in the winter.  To read more about passive storing of carrots for fresh consumption without a refrigerator read our "Storing Fresh Carrots" blog post.

Carrots have the bad reputation of being difficult to germinate, but unnecessarily so! Cover seeds lightly, if you have coarse soil use sifted compost or fine peat. Keep moist while they germinate, watering twice per day in warmer weather. Thin to 3" between plants.
