32 days. A real rustic radish- these large, creamy-golden heirlooms will add a unique color to your vegetable harvest. Named for the Greek god of the sun because of its color. Though they grow quite well in the heat, they will get spicy when the weather heats up so plant early for a more mild flavor. Roots have a delectable crunch and large, leafy green tops are great for radish green lovers. We love this radish oven-roasted in olive oil with carrots and beets. Radishes are a great starter vegetable for beginning gardeners! They are a quick, early season crop to get your garden off to a great start. Nutritionally dense, radishes are an excellent source of vitamin C in both the root and the greens and also contain potassium, vitamin B6, iron and folic acid. A bit of its heirloom story: Helios radish is believed to be originally sourced from heirloom yellow radish collector Alzbeta Kovacova-Pecarova of Kosice, Czechoslovakia. Yellow radish varieties are documented as early as the 1700s. Yellow being a result of a genetic mutation, they are thought to be the same makeup as a pink or red radish with a few missing genes. Yellow radishes first appeared in seed catalogs of the United States in the 1800’s. It became popular as a result of their ability to be successfully grown in warmer climates. How to grow it:
