Pisum sativum

75 days, climbing, shelling pea. More tolerant of both cold and hot than other peas, ‘Wando’ is a perfect pea for climates with short springs, cold winters, and hot summers, and for later plantings. Very sweet shelling peas in dark green pods are borne on vines which require trellising.

A bit of its story:  Introduced in 1943, Wando is a cross between English heirloom pea 'Laxton Progress' and 'Perfection' a new England heirloom.

Peas love a crowd, sow 1" apart along as soon as the ground can be worked in spring. Plant 1" deep at the base of a trellis such as a fence or net strung between two posts as vines grow tall. Plants will bear longer if planted early and pods are picked regularly before peas begin drying down.  Can also be sown in fall and grown overwinter in climates with mild winters.
