They love a crowd so plant them 1" apart along as soon as the ground can be worked in spring. I like to cover the ground with row cover to help keep the soil warm and hasten germination. Mice and squirrels love pea seeds, but they will leave the plants alone once the plant is up and growing and the seed is gone. The sooner you can get them germinating, the less vulnerable they are to being munched. They do love cooler weather, so plants will bear longer if they are planted early and pods are picked regularly before peas begin drying down. As legumes, peas do fix some of their own nitrogen, but they need another source like compost to be really productive. Seed specs: Packet size: 30 seeds min. |
