90 days, late-season maturing. Excellent choice for an open-pollinated, mid-sized, dark purple cabbage. And talk about antioxidants! An heirloom farmer’s market favorite, these hearty beauties are big enough to feed a family but don’t overwhelm. Dense heads keep well in storage and being a late season cabbage you'll be harvesting it just in time to store it. Sugar content doubles after one month of cold exposure. 6-8 lb. heads. Popular variety widely adapted to various soils and climates. We have found it hard to find a purple open-pollinated cabbage that produces so uniformly and reliably. With a slightly peppery flavor, this cabbage adds a unique color twist to slaws, pickled cabbage, sauerkraut, and stir fried cabbage dishes. Mammoth Red Rock cabbage is loaded with anthocyanins. These antioxidants are known to reduce cholesterol and inflammation, as well as improve immune function. This cabbage is also rich in vitamins A, C and K. A bit of its story: Heirloom introduced commercially in 1889, known as 'Red Danish' prior to 1906. According to the 1944 Steele & Briggs Seed Co catalog, it is the “largest and best red cabbage.” According to F.B. Mills 1936 catalog: “The largest of the Red Cabbages and the most sure heading, also the best for pickling” |

Start indoors as early as 6 weeks before the last frost. For successive harvest through the season, sow every two weeks through the summer solstice. Can be direct sown as well. Thin/transplant to at least 24” apart on all sides. More space will yield larger heads. Seed specs: Packet size- 50 min. |
