Vigna unguiculata
65-70 days. This versatile variety is tasty green or dried! The shortest season cowpea we have grown- likely the quickest variety out there! Extremely productive, tender pods are borne on compact 7-8" plants. Does well in climates with cool summers, Carol Deppe developed this variety to excel in northern gardens. Small tan dry beans are excellent for cooking and don't require prior soaking. We will be growing this cowpea again and again!

Direct sow 1" deep after all danger of frost has passed. In row spacing is 3" with 8" between rows. Soaking seeds for 2-4 hours can hasten germination time. Planting with bean specific bacterial inoculum may help boost yields, especially if planting where beans have not grown before. Seed specs: Packet size: 1/4 oz. ~35 seeds |
