Pisum sativum

70 days, climbing, shelling pea. Excellent choice for late season pea plantings. Even when maturing in the heat of August at Giving Ground Farm, peas remained tender and productive. Benefits from trellising, but shorter than other climbing varieties so you might get away without.  Very sweet, juicy flavor.  3-4 inch pods.

Peas are excellent sources of protein, fiber, phyto-nutrients, Vitamin C, niacin, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Peas love a crowd, sow 1" apart along as soon as the ground can be worked in spring. Plant 1" deep at the base of a trellis such as a fence or net strung between two posts as vines grow tall. Plants will bear longer if planted early and pods are picked regularly before peas begin drying down.
