Cucumis melo

80 days.  Charentais is a type of French melon known for being small, super flavorful, soft, and fragrant.  We love the taste and size of charentais melons, but before getting this variety from Adaptive Seeds, we never knew a variety we could reliably produce seeds from because they needed a longer season.   As the name of this beautiful French meon suggests- "super precocious"- it is quicker to ripen than other varieties of charentais melon.

Like the folks at Adaptive, we also learned that this variety can be a tricky one as far as determining the correct harvest time.  Don't wait for full melon slip, when the melon slips easily off the vine, as that will be too late.  Instead, pick when its still a little green and you have to separate from the vine with sheers.  Experiment a little with harvesting time to find the perfect ripeness for you.

Like other varieties of tasty melons (aka not typical cantaloupe) charentais melons are "too soft to ship"- you have to grow them yourself!!
