Physalis ixocarpa

70-90 days from transplant.  This tomatillo is traditionally grown unattended and intercropped with corn in Mexican cornfields and is a great choice for organic gardens!  An abundance of small purple and green fruit (3/4"-1") grow on plants that reach 3' tall.  These tomatillos have a sharper flavor than other varieties and are great roasted, stewed, or made into a fresh salsa verde.  These tomatillos will keep at room temperature for several weeks!

Start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before average last frost date. Thin to the strongest plant per pot. Transplant 18-24" apart in full sun, plants transplant better when small, 10-12". Tomatillos are ripe when the husk fully turns brown, or they fall off the plant.  Plant more than one, as they benefit from cross pollination between plants of the same variety.
