Quick facts

  • Hardneck

Purple tinged and popular, Purple Glazer has a well-rounded, medium spicey, sweet "garlicky" flavor.  This is a hardneck variety for roasting and baking.  Heirloom from the Republic of Georgia where it is known as Mchadijvari #1.  Large heads are made of fat cloves.  Very hardy, this garlic grows best in climates with cold winters.

How to grow it:

Plant individual cloves in fall, Sept-Oct, root side down, about 2 inches deep. Cover with straw mulch to help protect cloves from deep freezes. Harvest when leaves begin to dry down, around mid-July. Hang to let cure for 2-4 weeks in a covered location.

Quantities are per pound.
