Cottage garden favorite! Self-sowing annual plants are attractive in all their phases of growing, flower buds, light purple flowers, and dry seed pods all work as excellent, long lasting cut-flowers. Seed pods dry well and make great additions to everlasting cutflower bouquets. Fennel-like feathery leaves.

Herbal and culinary uses:
The seeds taste somewhat spicy (some people note a resemblance to nutmeg) and have been used as a condiment, to flavor wines, and as an expectorant. Expectorants are those compounds used to break up coughs, mucus and loosen lung conjestion. Love-in-a-mist is a close relative to cumin, which is Nigella sativa and shares its bright orange roots.

Germination can be slow and erratic, even under the best conditions.
Easy to grow, direct sow these around the last frost date, covering very lightly. Does not transplant well. Thin plants to 6” apart. Tolerant of drier conditions, it really doesn't like it too wet.
