Quick facts

  • Very easy to grow Italian herb

Silene inflata

Sculpit is an Italian herb that adds mild, tarragon-like flavor to risottos, soups, pastas, and omelettes.  The lance shaped leaves are best harvested before flowering.  When it does flower, the white flowers are cute, balloon shaped, and attractive to bees.  The seeds are easy to harvest, or just let it self sow.  It self sows moderately and doesn't become overwhelming.  Sculpit will be a perennial in around zones 5 or greater.  We've planted our sculpit in a hot spot next to a concrete curb and the plants are doing awesome and even overwintering here!

How to grow it:

Sculpit is easy to grow.  Direct sow in spring or early summer, it can tolerate a moderate frost.  Grow in sun or part shade, and plant it where it can self sow year after year.  Space rows 5" apart and plants 10" apart.  Decorative and cute- plant this one where you can watch bees coming and going from it!
