In order to keep increasing the diversity of this landrace, I planted 2 new varieties in the mix that I think will do really well in our short springs. Those varieties can share those genetics when they cross pollinate. 🐝 That's part of maintaining a landrace. As the population naturally narrows through selection pressure, adding new genetics into the mix helps keep the population diverse and adaptable.

If you want to adapt fava beans to your garden, you can jump-start the process by starting with a super diverse population like a landrace. Simple plant selection by you and/or nature will begin to narrow the genetics to be suited to your garden/goals. The majority of the crops and varieties we grow today were bred by gardeners just like you.

The need to adapt our garden crops to changing growing conditions is more prescient than ever.

That's why we sell a number of landraces and breeding populations to help you get your at-home breeding projects going.
